Shortened pencils are usually discarded, which causes waste. However, the innovative design team of Shi Xiaoming, Qiu Liwei, and Li Jiawei have come up with a brilliant solution. They have created Gyro, a unique product that can be covered on pencils that have shortened after usage, transforming them into interactive toy gyros.
Gyro not only addresses the issue of pencil waste but also provides a new and exciting toy for both adults and children. By simply covering the gyro onto the shortened pencil and rotating it, users can draw out unique curve lines. The diversity of its shape allows for different expressive possibilities, satisfying the demands of various users.
The designers have taken into consideration the technical specifications of the product. Gyro is made using silicon gel as the material, with the pencil body serving as the axis of the gyro and the pencil point acting as the support point. The product dimensions are 50mm*50mm*20mm, and it is produced using molds.
During the design process, the team faced challenges in improving the duration and stability of the gyro rotation. Through repeated model experiments, data analysis, and structural optimization, they were able to achieve the desired effect. The result is a gyro that provides an engaging and enjoyable experience for users.
Gyro was developed in Wenzhou, starting in the summer of 2017 and finishing in the winter of the same year. The designers conducted research to understand the issue of pencil waste and how it could be transformed into a toy that would be loved by both adults and children. The end result is a product that not only reduces waste but also brings joy and creativity into people's lives.
Gyro has received recognition for its innovative design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Art and Stationery Supplies Design category in 2018. This award is bestowed upon outstanding designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills. Gyro's incorporation of art, science, design, and technology contributes to quality of life improvements, making the world a better place.
